"remind me again-am I a decade or a century?"

Sam, our “sweet stuff in the middle” turned 10 years old on Saturday. Proof that he is hurtling towards adulthood was his “Favorite Meal Birthday Dinner” choice…lemon herb chicken and foccacia bread.

Can you just sense the immense relief in the resident cook to finally move beyond the last few years choice of chicken nuggets with Kraft mac ‘n cheese!? I mean, most adults

(my brother excluded, because he actually scanned a few of those blue .59 cent boxes onto his Target wedding registry! yeah, we bought them…we liked his wife, she was worth the splurge)

anyway, as I was saying, most adults come to a point where their taste buds mature and they are hit with the startling realization that noodles should not glow in that gooey, other-worldly orange?! For Samuel, this came about 20 years earlier than I expected and that makes this a growth milestone, and therefore it is quite worthy of blogging.

We had a joint birthday party last night at the Club pool, since big brother Josiah will be 12 in 2 short weeks…Josiah has already let me know he wants lasagna and garlic bread for HIS dinner and again, I bask in the glow of such a choice, what it means! Do you know how many years I have forced these boys to “just TRY it?!” How long I have begged, cajoled, bribed them to have a tasting bite? Each time one of our boys casually chooses something that is NOT found at a McDonalds’ I am doing a little Arsenio whoop-whoop in my head. Of course, we are not out of the woods yet….

Caleb’s birthday is in September. He wants a $5 Little Caesar pizza with nothing but plain cheese on top. Keep praying for his Mama.
