multitude monday 5/3

Ann’s encouragement at Holy Experience was the impetus that brought me to the decision to record (again-I have dusty old notebooks from the late 1990s, but public blogging is a different, more accountable type of journalling) once a week, my grateful-to-God lists. Her post today was about being “grateful, anyway”

http://www.aholyexperience.com/2010/05/how-to-do-hard-things-and-always-give.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+HolyExperience+%28Holy+Experience%29

and her words (as always)  ring true with Scripture, where we are asked “to give thanks in all circumstances”

So, today, I turn my usual Pollyanna self to a different type of list-making. What are the stumbling blocks, the messes, the rough areas that I can choose to look hard at, not turn away from but instead: linger over, touch, remind my heart that, this…even the very thorns…are gifts to me from a loving Abba father.

201. 2 weeks of hard boot camp sweat, yet no change in the scales verdict.

202. mildew in the washing machine.

203. gray drizzle of rain when i long to garden.

204. behind in schoolwork. always, it seems.

205. that funky smell in the old Suburban.

206. deer eating the tulips, the ragged edge of hostas.

207. a year behind on scrapbooking.

208. hormones.

209. i miss being on that boat with my best friend.

210. well water that stains–new white t shirts turning to beige in just weeks.

211. a heart fire for God that sputters cold, too quickly.

212. Doctor appointment dread.

213. ugly red bug bites as vacation souvenirs.

214. weeping over newspaper articles.

215. how the second law of thermodynamics rules this house and property.

216. yellow jackets frantically building nests under every eave.

About sparrowjourney

Christian homeschooling mom to three boys, married to my best friend, John, for over 20 years. I love gardening without gloves, learning history with my kids, cooking with lots of butter, serving others, great books, rich coffee, studying the Bible, camping outdoors, scrapbooking, vintage home decor, the smell of rain and cut grass, authentic people, poetry, laughing until your sides hurt, and babies. oh and black licorice is pretty awesome.

Thank you for sharing the parts that are not bursts of joy but that remind us even in the “thorns” of life to praise our Creator, because He is who He is! I love the concept of writing it all down and choosing to give thanks for even these. I feel like it is one thing to speak it but to write it down somehow also makes those seem like trivial trials.. not yours specifically not saying this is all trivial, but thinking of my own thorns in life, somehow they turn into the soft hairy thorns and not the large pokey ones..and soon less and less while praising Jesus they turn into joy! He tells us our sorrows will turn to praises and its so true! I could go on and on but i know you agree with me and i will spare everyone the long tedious soap box and just give a AMEN sister!! and leave it at that! cant wait to see you!!!!! xoxoox Kelli
