thrifty finds of the past few weeks

This rusty old ceiling tin, to prop up in the dining area. Goodwill $1.99

this cool metal hook-light-something. I don’t know what it is but I LOVE old, metal, industrial type junk-it’s a great juxtaposition to the feminine, white, cottage stuff I have around. and it was only .99 cents at Goodwill!

I like shades of bright blue (outside, only) and this old shutter was a whopping $3.99. I like the color and texture, and propped it up on this old sewing table on the back deck. It is under the eaves so the rain shouldn’t ruin it, too quickly. John just re-filled the hot tub and I promised the boys we would all get in together, soon. The chilly Autumn and Winter is the best time for soaking and star viewing!

A new scrapbook paper tote that retails for over $40.00, for 10% of that…The only scrapbooking I seem to get accomplished is at all day “Crops”, so this will be really helpful.

Also, please do enjoy the manly hairy legs of my precious little baby boy.

A pair of Chaco sandals for Josiah, for his tropical vacation with friends next month (he is wearing them now to break them in.) I splurged for our Mexico vacation last Spring, and paid over $100 for my Chacos….so you can bet we snatched these up when we saw them at $3.99, at Goodwill. Some people get really nervous about used shoes but not me-I spray them well with disinfectant and have never, in 20 years, had a problem. I don’t buy athletic shoes however, for the boys or myself, because I know that even if they look good there is often little to no support left, by the time they are donated. My running shoes confirmed that, because after 250 miles? They still looked pretty decent, but were almost completely devoid of cushion. If you start getting shin splints or plantar fascitis suddenly? Shoes are done!

Things we bought but didn’t take photos of:

a new black Reebok coat for Sam, that has an Ipod pocket that made him grin wildly…$2

black and white polka dot shoes that made me grin wildly…$5

an extra glass measuring cup, because ours is always in the dishwasher when I need it …$2.59

a new 12 x 12 scrapbook album full of page protectors…$2.99

overalls and a straw hat for Caleb’s Halloween costume $6.00

a Starbucks coffee mug .49
